I don't know if this is a fluke or if there is actually a problem with this ring. I wanted to see how other people have fared while using it.
I am a Goldsmither and I usually go about 4 gems in a stack of 99. Sometimes 5. I have skill 98, the stall, the apron, the glasses, coconut rusk, Support, direction + ICE DAY. I have tested this twice on two separate occasions.
Both times I only did 1 gem out of a stack of 99 geodes. one.
My friend is a cook who 110 cooking + Hocho/Stall/Apron/Hat (120 I believe?) He is in the RCB Market. He also got this ring and attempted to use it while crafting his curry buns. He went through a few stacks of dragon meat worth of curry and noticed that his HQ rate with this ring was way down. He did the synths on Watersday with support/direction.
Anyone else having any kind of problems with this ring or notice anything while using it?
I've never had good luck with HQ + items for gems.
What I've observed is that they increase the rate of HQ, but do not bump the tier (t3, t2, t1). In my attempts, I've only noticed an increase in t1 results.
COuld just be chalked up to bad luck. A couple of tries doesn't really give us proof of anything, other than bad luck.
And honestly, if your HQ rate has increased overall from T1 and T2 synths, that would also indicate the ring is working - not just some bad luck between an average (note: AVERAGE - meaning you can get more or less on days with shitty luck) and isn't exclusive to HQ3 synths of a level 52-53 base synth.
Trust me, i am a goldsmither as well with an 88-88 skill level including *most* of the perks ranging from Shaded Specs, Goldsmith's Apron, Goldsmith's Stall, etc. Some days i get pretty lucky with HQ, other days i don't even when the base skill is down at level 10.
Are you sure the right direction wasn't really the wrong direction? Or maybe you didn't remember to spin in a circle twice and praise Altana before you started?

That seems a possibility to me. I hadn't really thought about that. I'll test it with another stack tomorrow and see what my T1s/T2s are like.
I was 1/1 on Tazvanite Jewel first time I put the ring on. You just experienced bad luck. People say that the HQ rate increases by 1%. Also gems are bad to test the sample rate. You have to consider the total number of HQ's (HQ1, HQ2, HQ3). Like Lye said, the ring does not bump you to another HQ tier.
I would test the theory on a cheap mat. (with and without the ring and report the results if you like). A 100 sample size should suffice. Just try to do it within the same time frame.
We really need someone like Bryth from BG to do the math, but the number of synths required to determine the HQ rate from ring if it is 1% (which, come one, it's SE, it's not going to be better than that), is probably going to be in the tens of thousands. Your one stack of flame geodes is a really small number to be basing the evaluation of the ring on.
Besides which, you mention direction in your post....
I went 1/30 on Cursed Mask -1s with Coconut Rusk, my skill gear, and this new ring on along with level 110 alchemy.
Then I went 0/8 on Hexed Gages.
Then I went 1/1 on Hexed Doublet -1.
Then I went 5/10 on Nakajimarai +1s.
It makes your HQ rate go up, but it doesn't make crafting much less random.
99 Gems with a 50% HQ rate and a 1/16 chance of HQ3 and 1/20 chance of break means you should expect about 3 Gems per stack of 99.
Assuming this ring and Coconut Rusk work like Shaper's Shawl, which increases the base skillup chance to 25% above the base chance, the best way to test for this would be to do T3 synths and record the %HQ results. Something like a level 102+ alchemist would be ideal. If it adds a static amount to the HQ rate, then the best option would be to use T0 synths and require T0 results. Something like a level 51 Alchemist would be ideal. *whistles*

Go to Muhara and buy a **** wad of colored rocks. Try on those. But understand with gems of any kind the color of the rock / geode / whatever has elemental influence too.

Like I said earlier geodes and rocks are multi-HQ tier synths. I don't find colored rocks to be cheap nor plentiful. I would try maybe iron/steel ingots. Can sell both for profit and not a loss.
Direction has never made an influence on my synths. I can never find proof of this because day / moon phase are two independent variables that always change. Introducing a third unknown such as direction would be difficult to solve. You would have to find times where the day and phase is the same and test the different direction at relative large sample sizes...
It may be a superstition but it can't hurt. It may well help. Remember, in this world magic works and is based on elements.
not it doesn't in "this world" it all math and algorithm.
i can believe ppl can think that "this" world actually acts like a real world and not just a bunch of numbers and algebra.
i guess some ppl just cant be helped seeing the matrix.
The OP claiming that he always gets 5+ gems from a stack is beyond ridiculous.
I said usually four sometimes 5, and I do usually get 4. I've never gone 0/100 anything. :( Maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know, but I've never had any big losses crafting the gems themselves... (0/23 on hq earrings though -.- )
Also I heard a couple people claiming that the ring only works in Adoulin. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?
