Acquiring Avatar's Via Lv60+ Battle
So my buddy is willing to do these fights for me but first would like to know, in order to obtain the avatar(for use on SMN) do i have to have the job unlocked first/be on the job?
Need SMN unlocked, but you don't have to be on the job when you beat it.
I'm pretty sure you can get the whisper without having the job unlocked. So you can just save them until you do unlock it, then trade them in the for the ability so summon them.
Oh, I forgot you don't just win the reward right after the fight. Yeah, you don't need it unlocked to fight and win, but when you go to redeem the whispers, you need it unlocked.

you only need to be on smn if you want the free warp there
if you and your buddy are walking then it doesnt matter what job you're on. No point in not doing them at least once to get you familiar. You're going to want to do them all (again) eventually to get the items for the Evoker's Ring anyways.
