It's not a company laptop. It's my personal one. I'm not viewing porn our anything that would really get me fired, I just wanted to view ffxiah blogs when I'm at lunch. For some reason this website flags as social media. But yet I can use websites that are truly social media. But you're probably right.
The wifi allows for guests to use it, but it just blocks stupid websites. Can still use espn forums though.
Then you probably can politely point out that this site seems to be improperly blocked/classified on their open wifi, and ask for it to be whitelisted.
If it is an open network (e.g. private devices allowed), and a private laptop, then by all means, install whatever the heck you want.
You could use teamviewer, or a similar remote desktop (RDP, VNC) to connect to your home computer and surf from there. If you are running linux/unix at home, you can always tunnel X over SSH, assuming the corresponding ports are open at work.
If you don't have a separate home PC, but only your laptop, your best bet is likely to just use an old PC or miniPC (e.g. raspberry pi), and set up a VPN client from there. It will likely cost you significantly less in the long run.
Here's a possible tutorial(fair warning, can't say I've tried or looked through it).
