What research says about cats: they're selfish, unfeeling, environmentally harmful creatures

Quote:
For years, dog and cat owners have been bickering over the relative merits of each type of pet.

But in recent years, scientific researchers have started to weigh in — and most of their findings so far come down firmly on the side of dogs.

Compared to dogs, scientists have found, cats don't seem to have the same sort of emotional attachment to their owners, and show genuine affection far less often than you might think. Further, they're an environmental disaster, killing literally billions of birds in the US every year — many of them from endangered species....
Personally I wouldn't have a cat who didn't hunt.

I live in a fairly rural but developed area on 3/4 of an acre. If I don't have a hunting cat some other small predator will fill the ecological niche. Last time it was a rattlesnake.

Cats are solitary creatures in the wild, why would they be more emotionally invested beside dogs who think of their owner as part of the 'pack' being a social creatures and all?

I think they're both fine creatures to have as pets, I just don't expect a cat to snuggle, play fetch, or otherwise be a "team player" in the family, so to speak.

That's not to say there aren't occasionally cats like that, but I don't expect it.

I have a part (maybe full) bengal (we found him abandoned as a kitten).

This breed is very much a "pack" cat.

Like I said. I'm sure there are plenty of anecdotes out there about more loving cats, or certain breeds that may be "pack" animals.

Just your standard domestic feline is a bit standoffish. :p

I'm convinced when my wife's cat is looking at me, it's just wishing it was big enough to eat me.

I don't trust anything that poops in a box and thinks it has carte blanche to track fecal particulate across the house or kitchen counter tops.

I've started to kind of like cats more because I've realized that they're closer to my own personality.

I guess i hit the cat lottery, both of my cats are actually really affectionate and caring. I mean they have typical cat behaviors, but the little one actually follows me/comes to me when I call her name.

Its probably cause i feed 'em ._.

On time spent:worthiness ratio, it still ranks higher than most P&R threads.

Yet I still find myself drawn to them for some reason.

I'm allergic to cats which is probably why we have one. She stays outside unless it's freezing cold then she is brought in to sleep in one of the other rooms. We got lucky with her, she will kill snakes and mice, rarely birds never squirrels (though we will if there are too many, yum) and I once saved a baby rabbit from her...and sneezed for the next two days.

If I had to pick between the cat and the four yorkies, I love dogs but I'd pick the cat, she never makes a damn sound.

Four Yorkies.

Wow.

How do you have the energy to own four Yorkies?
