We laugh but in the Philippines, the working girls are required to have a card with them that shows the date of their last doctors visit. If it's more then seven days old they can't work. To illustrate, last year in PI there was an incident involving a Korean guy who had "won big" at a casino. Dude won something like 10 grand, when he was finished he went to his van (hotels will provide you with a driver and vehicle to get around) and let his drive know about it. The driver apparently made a phone call or something cause two minutes later a dude on a motorbike pulls up, shoots the Korean guy in the head, takes the money and drives off.

This made big waves because it was inside a tourist area and those are considered off limits to the local thugs and gang, enforceable by other thugs and gangs getting money from the resorts, bars and casinos to keep it safe so those tourists keep pouring money into it.

Anyhow, westerners are idiots in general and have no clue how little the value of life is outside of the small little moral bubbles we live in. You sit there high on your soapbox but I can guarantee you waste more food & water in a day then the value of those lives your protesting against.

All those transgender "girls" I was talking about earlier, they didn't get that full conversion surgery because they were "a women born in a mans body", they got it because it provides them with a way to earn money for their families and if they didn't then they would probably starve to death. So if your truly sickened by the conditions these people live in, and not just trying to stroke your own ego, then get off your *** and come volunteer at some nonprofit organization to help them. I'm involved in a church group (I'm not religious but I still work with them) that has a big collection once a year, then we fly out to PI, to the really poor areas without any tourist money, the area's without running water or electricity, and we do domestic projects or help with the orphanages / free clinics. And oh by the way, the large southern region of PI is the really poor area, they also have a big problem with Muslim extremists who like to kidnap and ransom foreigners, so there is an actual element of danger involved in helping those living in the provinces.

And as to your idiotic comment, we frequently vacation in Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia, and India because it's extremely cheap vs Guam, Japan, Hawaii and Australia. I stayed a week in a five star resort in Phuket where I went out on private tours of the various tropical islands, scuba dived and enjoyed just relaxing and being pampered. Body massages, spas, wonderful dinners. I even scheduled for a private dinner for me and my GF on the roof top sun deck of our suite. Had a chef come up and cook all the courses individually with a waiter on hand. Afterwards the staff prepared a really nice rose petal bubble bath. It was my treat to my girl.

Total cost for this trip was right at 3.5K. To do the same in Hawaii would of easily been 10K or more. For this same reason all the companies out here send us to these places for IT training instead of having to go all the way back to the states. Costs the company 5K per seat for a week of training, vs the 10~15K per seat it would cost back stateside.

Norway/Sweden/Finland? But all would possibly be bad choices in wintertime unless you like cold and dark.
