But when the social-media specialist for a private Provo-based English language learning center wrote a blog explaining homophones, he was let go for creating the perception that the school promoted a gay agenda.

All I got from this article was "No... Homophonia, Homonyms, Homogenized milk, etc." because some retard thinks the root word (meaning "same") will associated the school as homosexual.

According to the article, the whole concept of homophones was explained extensively, so it couldn't be about linguistic ignorance.
It's about political correctness because the administrators didn't want to be tied into a gay agenda.

I agree...someone though that Homophone was in anyway similar to Homosexuality or Homophobia...and didnt want to get a lawsuit cause other HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE people would think the same thing. Stupid ignorant reaction is immensely stupid.

I don't think they fired the teacher because they don't know what "homophone" means - they fired him because a lot of people in the general public don't know what the word means, and the school is worried that most people will think it relates to homosexuality. In other words, they fired him just so they can preserve their image.
