Algeria airliner feared crashed on flight from Burkina Faso
Quote: A passenger plane carrying 116 people is feared to have crashed on a flight from Burkina Faso to the Algerian capital Algiers.
Contact with the Air Algerie flight was lost over the Sahara as it crossed Mali in bad weather, officials said.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said the plane, which has 51 French citizens aboard, "probably crashed".
...
Burkina Faso authorities said the passenger list comprised 27 people from Burkina Faso, 51 French, eight Lebanese, six Algerians, two from Luxembourg, five Canadians, four Germans, one Cameroonian, one Belgian, one Egyptian, one Ukrainian, one Swiss, one Nigerian and one Malian.
The six crew members are Spanish, according to the Spanish pilots' union.

So, we have 1 missing plane somewhere between Malaysia and Hong Kong, 1 supposedly shot down plane over a warzone, and 1 plane feared to have crashed over a desert.
Is it me, or is there something wrong with the quality of airline controllers and pilots today?

What do air traffic controllers have to do with planes crashing?
Also, a plane from Taiwan to China crashed. Seems like it got blown off the runway during a typhoon.

That flight path was deemed safe by the regulatory bodies and many airlines used it. It isn't like Malaysia Airlines was cost cutting on the backs of passengers.
Unfortunate as MH17 was being shot down, that was the fault of military forces and not the airlines/pilots.

It was blown up because someone couldn't distinguish a jetliner from a cargo plane.
Thousands*!of planes fly over warzones every day and have since civilian flights started.
*hundreds is probably a more accurate statement

Wait, I thought nearly all flights scheduled to fly over the region that day were diverted except that flight?
Didn't a "general" for the Ukraine forces tweet that they were going to blow up a plane that day to cause the mass diversion?
If my information is flawed, then I apologize.

Seems like nows a good time to start buying stock in railroads and cruise lines. More stories about airplane mishaps this year than I can remember.

Is it me, or is there something wrong with the quality of airline controllers and pilots today? Damn it, this reminded me of an episode of Sullivan and Son, where Hank was talking to a hallucination of Pat Sajak.

If my information is flawed, then I apologize. Your information is flawed. That is one of the conspiracies floating about.
There was a flight behind and several comming from the opposite direction around the same time. Iirc, something like 70 flights flew through during that same day.
