read the part following the bold "and the like".

Tailgate parties follow under "and the like"

Ehhh...More food at tailgates and middle-age people (parents), so you do have to mind some Ps and Qs. DAYLIGHT!

To expand on Kara's, I see no one shotgunning either. :P

Just trying to let you in on some secrets, Canada.

I never understood the concept of a kegstand, but I did shotgun more than a few in my days. I used to challenge Ukrainians and Russians to shotgun tallboys up in Alaska. Good times... I don't know how I managed to work 18 hour days while hungover.

Never would I have ever thought this conversation would come up on AH while reading over other threads.

Tailgate...Just saying.

Had to look it up to make sure.

More on this guy, apparently he's a veteran too.

Quote:
A homeless US army veteran who jumped a fence and ran into the White House with a knife had more than 800 rounds of ammunition in his car, a court heard Monday.

Omar Gonzalez, 42, appeared in US District Court as Barack Obama's spokesman said the president is "obviously concerned" by Friday's stunning security breach.

Wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, Gonzalez stood impassively as US prosecutor David Mudd revealed that investigators had found the ammunition -- "in boxes and magazines" -- during a search of a car that was parked near the White House.

Also discovered were two hatchets and a machete, said Mudd, who made no mention of any firearms but described the accused as homeless, penniless and a flight risk.

Gonzalez was arrested on Friday after he evaded the outer layer of security around the US presidential residence, carrying a folding knife, and made it inside before being tackled.

A native of Texas who twice served in Iraq, he is charged with unlawfully entering a restricted building or grounds while carrying a deadly or dangerous weapon.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Mudd revealed that Gonzalez had been free on bail following his arrest in July in the nearby state of Virginia on felony charges of eluding arrest and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

On that occasion, he said, police found "numerous firearms" in Gonzalez's vehicle, including a sniper rifle, plus a map tucked into a Bible with the White House and a Masonic temple circled.

Gonzalez was also stopped, but not arrested, outside the White House in August with a hatchet in his rear waist band. Police searched his car, but only found camping gear and two dogs

Update, it was some guy from Texas:

Quote:
A man jumped a fence at the White House late Friday and made it through the North Portico doors into the building before he was captured, Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary told CNN.

Part of the White House was evacuated after a disturbance was initially detected on the North Lawn, according to a CNN reporter who was among those hustled from the building.

The first family was not at the White House at the time, but other people were.

President Obama had left just four minutes earlier with his daughters via helicopter from the South Lawn to visit Camp David.

The suspect, 42-year-old Omar Gonzalez of Copperas Cove, Texas, was apprehended just after making it inside the doors. He was taken to George Washington Medical Center for a medical evaluation, Leary said.

Gonzalez was known to Secret Service, said an official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The official would not say how or why. He had not been arrested by the Secret Service before.

"He appeared to responding officers to be unarmed, and that turned out to be true. He ignored officers' calls for him to stop and ran towards the White House," Leary said.

It's unclear how Gonzalez made his way onto the grounds.
Man barges into White House after jumping lawn fence

He is just a undocumented white house visitor, probably looking for a job. Obama should have been waiting with open arms.

A seemingly unrepentant Suleiman Abu Ghaith, a son-in-law of Osama bin Laden, was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday in New York following his conviction on terrorism charges.

A Manhattan federal jury in March found the Kuwaiti-born 48-year-old guilty of conspiring to kill Americans, conspiring to provide material support for terrorists and providing such support, after a trial that offered a rare glimpse of bin Laden in the hours following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan imposed the sentence minutes after Abu Ghaith made a statement in Arabic, quoting the Koran and declaring he would not ask for mercy from anyone but God.

"Today, and at the same moment where you are shackling my hands and intend to bury me alive, you are at the same time unleashing the hands of hundreds of Muslim youths," the former imam said through an interpreter. "And they will join the rally of the free men."

If the indirect talks between Israel and Hamas set to start Tuesday in Cairo do not yield significant Israel concessions, the EU should consider trade sanctions against Israel, Denmark’s foreign minister said on Monday.

According to the website of the Danish English news site, The Local, Martin Lidegaard told the Danish Jyllands- Posten newspaper that if Israel does not commit to end its “blockade” of Gaza and stop “illegal settlements,” then tougher steps should be adopted.

“If nothing happens in the peace talks this time, and if we don’t see a new pattern of response from Israel’s side, then we will need to discuss the possibility of taking new steps, including changes to our trade relations with Israel,” he said.

“I hope that it doesn’t come to that, but I think that the EU’s policies are moving in that direction,” he said.

His comments about the EU “moving in that direction” are at variance with a growing sense in Jerusalem that Islamic State has led to a greater understanding among many governments in the EU for what Israel is up against.

F-22 Raptor stealth fighters were needed in case the Syrians used their sophisticated air defenses. But Raptors don't come cheap.

Fears of a potent Syrian air defense system drove the U.S. Air Force to send its silver bullet force of F-22 Raptor stealth fighters into battle for the first time ever. The Pentagon confirmed on Sept. 23 that the $150 million jets had struck an ISIS command and control facility in Raqqah, Syria with a satellite-guided bomb. That was right after an initial wave of U.S. Navy Tomahawk cruise missiles hit their targets around Aleppo and Raqqah.

But the Raptors’ first mission wasn’t cheap. Together, the missiles and airstrikes cost at least $79 million to pull off, according to a Daily Beast tally.

That's more expensive than India's mission to Mars, which was successfully completed Wednesday at a cost of just $74 million.

The U.S. government told the Bashar al-Assad regime about the incoming attacks shortly before they happened. But the Pentagon did not trust the Syrian military to leave American warplanes alone as they struck ISIS and another Al Qaida-affiliated terrorist group called Khorasan. That’s why the Air Force needed assets like the blisteringly fast, high-flying Raptor which could operate inside heavily defended airspace with relative impunity.

Wardysnki said the monitoring program is limited to threats against schools, and students are expelled from neighborhood schools and placed into alternative programs. Asked if school officials are also searching online for photos of alcohol, drugs and sex, Wardynski said: "None of that."

...

The presentation explains the practice. For example, a student at Butler High was found to have posted a photo in July of 2013 and another in January of 2014 of himself holding a handgun and a cell phone.

SAFe officials found the pictures violated the city schools' Code of Conduct, section 3.11, barring: "Knowing possession of a weapon or anything designed, made or adapted or used for the purpose of inflicting death or serious physical injury." The SAFe monitors wrote the student was "posing in a menacing manner with what appear to be weapons."

They found six other photos showing the student flashing suspected gang signs. "SAFe recommendation: Consider (student) for expulsion."

That is a bunch of crap.

Continuing school overreach and questionable policies
School Claims Teen's Writing About Marijuana Use Is 'Drug Possession'

Quote:
Last May, a teenager was punished with a lengthy suspension after teachers discovered her folder which contained stories with references to marijuana use. Her father is now speaking out and appealing the school’s decision.

Tom Grayhorse, father of Krystal Grayhorse, told Ozarks First that he was called by Buffalo High School’s assistant principal after staff found Krystal’s folder containing the stories at the school and were “alarmed by the contents of the notebook.”

“She wrote about making out with a boy- well, you know, she’s a teenager- and also about having some pot then eating it and swallowing it at the school,” said Tom Grayhorse.

...

He went to the school for a meeting but was told he couldn't see the notebook because it's considered evidence, and that his daughter would be suspended for ten days.

Yeah. The whole backlash against students hunting is getting stupid. Was it...Miss America? Or...I don't know, I don't pay enough attention to that crap, but it was something along those lines and there was this huge backlash because she had pictures of her hunting on her Facebook page. I assume that's what you're referring to as well.

It's just ridiculous.

The Rev. Al Sharpton said his civil rights organization, the National Action Network, is "engaged in immediate conversations" with the White House as they work to name a successor to Attorney General Eric Holder, who is set to announce his resignation Thursday afternoon.

"We are engaged in immediate conversations with the White House on deliberations over a successor whom we hope will continue in the general direction of Attorney General Holder," Sharpton said in a statement.

Sharpton praised Holder, the first African-American attorney general, as the "best" one in history when it comes to civil rights.

"The resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder is met with both pride and disappointment by the Civil Rights community," he said. "We are proud that he has been the best Attorney General on Civil Rights in U.S. history and disappointed because he leaves at a critical time when we need his continued diligence most."

According to a Politico profile in August, in the aftermath of the racially charged protests in Ferguson, Missouri, Sharpton has become Obama's "go-to man" on race issues.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about whether Sharpton is involved in the decision-making process for Holder's successor.

Actually, we need law enforcement to stop illegally obtaining information from our personal property.

Ever since 9/11 there has been a present rhetoric of "we are doing this to fight terrorism" to which I call ***.

90% of what they're (law enforcement) are going after is John Q. Public who happens to be committing crimes that aren't linked in any way, shape, or form to terrorism.

All of this shenanigans could have been easily avoided if those agencies didn't overstep their bounds and played by the rules.

Young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is suffering from "discomfort", state media has said in the first official acknowledgement of ill health after a prolonged period out of the public eye.

Kim, 31, who is frequently the centrepiece of the isolated country's propaganda, has not been photographed by state media since appearing at a concert alongside his wife on Sept. 3, fuelling speculation he is suffering from bad health.

He had been seen walking with a limp since an event with key officials in July and in a pre-recorded documentary broadcast by state media on Thursday appeared to have difficulty walking.

"The wealth and prosperity of our socialism is thanks to the painstaking efforts of our marshal, who keeps lighting the path for the people, like the flicker of a flame, despite suffering discomfort," a voice over for the hour-long documentary said.

The documentary was followed by a pre-recorded broadcast of a North Korean Supreme People's Assembly meeting from which Kim Jong Un was notably absent.

Kim has rapidly gained weight since coming to power after his father died of a heart attack in 2011, photos released by state media show.

North Korea observers speculate Kim's weight and family background may have contributed to his condition.

"Based on his gait, it appears he has gout - something (due to) diet and genetic predisposition that has affected other members of the Kim family," said Michael Madden, an expert on the North Korean leadership and contributor to the 38 North website.

Britain will become first Western government to issue an offshore bond in China's renminbi currency, Chancellor George Osborne said on Friday, deepening efforts to build financial links with the world's No.2 economy.

News of the bond came after Britain announced 2.4 billion pounds ($3.9 billion) of commercial deals with China, coinciding with Chinese Vice Premier Ma Kai's visit to London.

"I can now announce that the UK government intends to be the first national government outside of China to issue a bond in China's currency," said Osborne, speaking alongside the vice premier as part of an annual meeting on finance and investment involving the two countries.

"We have issued bonds in U.S. dollars before. Now we will issue a bond in renminbi."

Osborne also said Lloyd's of London insurance market had been granted a licence to open a branch in Beijing, days after Britain granted the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China a wholesale banking licence.

Osborne said the renminbi bond would be similar in size to a 2 billion renminbi bond issued in London by China Development Bank.

The finance ministry said it expects the bond to be issued before the end of the year and that it will be used to finance the government's reserves of foreign currency.

Britain has been keen to attract Chinese banks and offshore trade in the yuan to bolster its position as the world's main centre for foreign exchange trading.

In March, Britain and China signed an agreement to set up a clearing service for renminbi trading in London, which is competing with Luxembourg, New York, Paris and Frankfurt to become the top Western offshore yuan centre.
