Where I live, in Tulsa, there used to be a yearly contest kinda like a Better Homes & Gardens contest or something. Basically you fix up your house and enter it into the contest. It was called Tulsa's House Beautiful annual something or other.
I used to hear about it on the radio and think "that wording is atrocious; 'house beautiful' and not 'beautiful house?'" So, as with a lot of things I don't quite get, I tried to rationalize it and here's what I came up with...
The House Beautiful annual sweepstakes was started and funded by a very VERY wealthy Chinese feng shui master who didn't know a word of English prior to coming to Tulsa. This man, in the days leading up to the State Fair, bought a house beautiful, started a business in which he employed an army of yes-men (and one intern), and learned enough English to order three, perhaps four, items on the menu of that ritzy little flatbread & wine bar by Cain's Ballroom.
So, with the State Fair only days away, Chinese man, who I'll refer to as Feng due to his mastery of feng shui, storms into his office and calls for a meeting immediately. *Chinese accent* "I want to start contest! Contest is for fair! We call it Tulsa House Beautiful!" and all the yes-men give this short little announcement a standing ovation except the intern, Steve, who tries to correct him and is immediately thrown out. ***' Steve!
So I imagine it was given a stupid name by a rich guy who didn't fully understand English and had a bunch of yes-men working for him who wouldn't correct him. His name was Feng, I mention this not because it is a real person but because I went through the trouble to call him Feng and then never referred to him as such again.

Here's something...What constitutes "a dog's age" and why/how/when did rubbing pregnant stomachs become good luck?
