Relic Weapons

Quote: Eorzea has witnessed a resurgence of the old ways in recent days, as adventurers the realm over take up the ancient trades of warrior and dragoon, bard and black mage, and more. Now, it is the traditional weaponry of these old mantles that are sought, the means of their making long since lost to the ages. It would seem this longing for things past and old is not limited merely to the schools of war and magic...
Relic Weapons
The reformation of Eorzea’s Grand Companies was born of a longing in the hearts of the free peoples of Eorzea—a longing for the days of old and the peace they knew. It is a sentiment that has since spread to the realm’s adventurers, guiding them toward the rediscovery of trades from a former age that had all but died out. Small wonder, then, that those who have mastered these ancient ways of battle and sorcery now seek the weapons of eld which will enable them to realize the truest expression of their newfound powers. Thus have adventurers begun their quest for the relics.
Obtaining Relic Weapons
Relic weapons are a category of arms designed specifically for a certain job. They are obtained via the “A Relic Reborn” quest, which can be undertaken as of the release of patch 1.22b*. Only players who have completed at least one of the job quests and obtained a soiled promissory note from the NPC Rowena in Ul’dah will be eligible for this quest. Once these conditions are met, “A Relic Reborn” can be started by speaking to the NPC Gerolt at the Hawthorne Hut, found within the Black Shroud.
“A Relic Reborn” is a repeatable quest. After completing it and obtaining a relic weapon, it may be begun again to obtain a different relic weapon. It is not possible, however, to progress towards two different relic weapons simultaneously. Should you wish to pursue a different relic weapon while “A Relic Reborn” is already underway, you must abandon the quest and begin anew. Epic challenges and hard work await those who undertake “A Relic Reborn,” so please choose the object of your desire carefully, lest you find yourself coveting your neighbor’s weapon!
* Though quest progression is possible as of version 1.22b, completion will not be possible until a future patch release.
So what do you guys think? I get the feeling these won't take as much to get as FFXI relics given that there is only a few months left till 2.0 but maybe closer to emp weapons in terms of a time frame. No mention of them recieving any unique weaponskills or abilities so theres a chance they will just be another step up in gear from what we have now and then repleaced down the line.

I bet they are not as good as double/triple melds

It doesn't take much time at all. There are linkshells that already have 6-8 letters for their members.
By EstharFalcus 2012-06-06 10:37:47
I'm kinda disappointed with them tbh.
I was hoping for some sort of timesink that would be progressable solo/small party at some point in the progress of getting it but it doesn't look like it has any of that =/
Also before people jump me about this, it's not so I can "feel better than everyone else" it's so I could have something that feels worthwhile to progress towards even when I can't get a full party to do content with.
I just want something to do during the dead hours (aka EU times) Q_Q
Hopefully 2.0 will have something along those lines.
By Yuhase 2012-06-06 10:48:53
well it says that the quest wont be complete-able in 1.22b so I assume that there will be far more to do then the notes.

Who says that means I have to quit trolling the boards? :P
I'll be back, got kinda bored with the game and had a lot of RL garbage going on. 2.0 looks really hawt too, might just wait for that, unless they come out with cool stuff I can't get after Eorzea takes a moon to the knee
By ZettaiRyouiki 2012-06-06 11:22:11
Actually I was hoping to start a perpetual chain of "I thought you quit" messages.
Thanks for bursting my bubble. :(

Baby Jebus you were one of the best, most reliable thread saboteurs; accomplice in the most notorious of derails. What has the summertime done to you?
I do not know who you are anymore :|

I bet they are not as good as double/triple melds This is what I'm thinking as well, kinda like how our af is good as a base but between drops and double/tripple melds there is better stuff to be had.

I would think they're more like the artifacts of FFXI, will be good only for a bit.
By EstharFalcus 2012-06-06 11:51:54
I may have quit... for now at least but I still pay attention to these things :P
Depending on how 2.0 goes I may come back after.

My trolling and derailing powers seem to be inversely related to the position of Earth in its orbit relative to the Sun... Hmmm

As long as the mnk weapon is the tiger head knuckles the mnk in the questline wields, I'll be happy lol
edit: seems like they are. seems like it could be fun to build a pair in 14. I regret not starting a relic when they were implemented in 11. Not gonna make that mistake again.

Overall they look good, I'm sad BLM weapon has no MACC at all. DRG lance looks pretty insane though, as do some others.

Giving WAR the ability and equipment to tank isn't a bad thing, it gives us a little more freedom. The problem is when WAR can hold hate better, take less damage, and deal more damage, haha.
They're at least taking steps in the right direction with PLD as a job though, it actually has it's place in some of current end game. Chimera is an example that comes to mind where a PLD can outshine a WAR.
Plus that sword looks pretty nice!
Edit: On another note, I have to say again, holy ***at that polearm!

Comparing it to Ifrit's Harpoon, it has .1 more delay, but 13 more damage. That damage increase -should- make up for the lost 30 atk.
But overall, all the AF weapons are very nice. :o I

That as well as the higher DPS(For the WS stat caps), the crit boosts(which are actually kind of nice now with the changes) AND the jump bonus...yeah that weapon is beautiful haha
Also yeah, 13 DMG will certainly make up for the 30atk loss.

Well if anyone calls it "gay bulge" to my face, I'll just have to show the spear head up their ***. Can't have people being wrong, now can we?
