Driving my mother's boyfriend around town. He wanted to visit an old warehouse he delivered to. Having been with him before I figured I'd let him go in by himself today.

Just had one of the guys he knew come out and thank me/praise me for being so helpful to their old friend after his stroke...

I'm just sitting here like "I... Haven't done anything, stahp."

._.

Feel weird now.

Some people are just trollbait.

I've been around long enough to know who's worth debating, and who are just ***.

As much as I rack my brain with some people, I still determine them to be worth debating, even if only to keep my personal debating skills up to par, or to raise them from what they were.

If you have been around to back read, or remember, KN and I were once staunchly against one another and often butting heads.

Another poster I was often at odds with (though only on a specific topic, which became rather aggressive, and mean spirited at times) was Senkyuutai.

-sighs-

I always feel conflicted if debating online is useful for my own knowledge gain and others or if it's just an exercise in emotion control.

Sometimes I think it's an unhealthy addiction too gets your brain firing and heart rate up.
There's no point in arguing with anyone anymore, unless it's to correct them on their opinions.

Unless you are able to prove to them that they are wrong, it will just be one big "no u!" fest. Sources help out a lot, but in most cases, they will just ignore them.

I'm sorry but a lot of people who are consistently wrong refuse all kind of criticism all the same even when faced with the evidence. I call it the ANCL Quartet.

All it takes is one poster to re-calibrate one's mind and viewpoint.

I think we all know who that one was for me.

I call it the flower-head syndrome. And a couple of posters here who get their panties twisted in a knot whenever I post have that a lot.

I think the key to debating successfully *as defined by me* is not to hold onto the animosity that can creep up on you without knowing it.

Even if you *can* prove someone wrong, correct their information, or whatever is happening, animosity can linger by means of presentation, and making them feel or seem infantile for their beliefs, rather than finding witty quips and clever retorts, for finding middle ground to continue associating on.

Winning a debate, particularly against a community member you interact with often enough, means peanuts in comparison to the community at large, and alienating yourself as "the smartest" or "greatest" person ever.

Ok here's a more recent example of what I mean, although you probably already get the idea:

AltimaOmega and I are almost always at odds politically, but witty remarks, subtle and not so subtle distractions (like random popcorn comments) are enough of a foundation that when something looks like it's about to hit the fan, we can sit back and watch things get interesting.

We don't go into a debate trying to one up each other or score points, but express viewpoints and how we came to such a conclusion, and whether that conclusion was logical, according to our individual thought processes.

Maybe not the smartest or greatest person on all aspects, but to root yourself as somebody who's very knowledgeable in regards to a specific topic is something of note.

Pleebo is the one best suited for science topics.
Kara is the one best suited for economic topics.
Byrth is the one best suited for programming topics.
Chaosx is the one best suited for international politic topics.

And so on.

Not always it's possible for me. I get particularly upset when someone's spreading outright lies: for example someone claiming some ***gear is amazing or that biochemistry doesn't exist(hello LG). There are also topics where I am emotionally invested(such as autism, rape)and it can lead to an angsty situation.

People can say stupid things about all kind of topics and sometimes you can just laugh about it(I often do when I read Alt), but sometimes it's hard to refrain that desire to tell them they're wrong.

There are people I can disagree with on things and still debate without issues, such as Ramyrez or KN after the cure, but others just seem impossible.

The bolded is very true, and the use of language to an audience so that they can understand is also very important. For psychological reasons, it also gives a person more credibility when they can effectively use a platform to voice their point of view.

On that note, I'm curious what you consider me best suited for.

And no, don't use the Charizard picture again.

Seha, you made me laugh pretty good with the "KN after the cure" XD

But I do agree. It's not always possible to do so, and I have been caught up in some tug of wars like that, because I am also emotionally invested in them.

Strike that, you are about as knowledgeable in corporate law as I am.
